Oxygen is energy
Self-awareness is key. Recognize when your pattern of breathing is harming your performance and take control. When you are under pressure, one technique to slow things down and quiet your mind and body is deep, controlled breathing. The following passage expands on this concept:
Oxygen is energy—it’s juice. Oxygen helps relax muscles and clear the mind. When you hold your breath, you are creating pressure and a nervous feeling. The pattern of your breathing affects the pattern of your performance. When you are under stress, deep breathing helps bring your mind and body back into the present. When you feel that you are becoming anxious, recognize that you need to take control of your thoughts by taking control of your breathing. Breathe in energy and positivity. Breathe out stress and negativity.
Bottom line: At times everyone experiences nervousness and anxiety. Embrace the situation and train yourself to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” Deep, controlled breathing will allow you to focus your energy and attention on the task at hand. Center your mind and body in the present moment by controlling the pattern of your breathing.
