Topic- Training your Brain to Focus Only on Positive Thoughts
An important key to achieving success in any endeavor is learning how to focus on the task at hand and not let negative thoughts interfere. Here is an excerpt that deals with training your brain to focus on positive thoughts:
The mind works most effectively when you’re telling it what to do rather than what not to do. Do not waste any mental energy thinking about what you do not want to happen. Instead, focus on what you do want to happen or on some neutral thought. By changing your thinking—and you can choose how you think—you can change your performance. Learn to use your mind or your mind will use you.
Putting it into practice: Create a word or phrase that, when said to yourself, will block out all negative thought and will help relieve tension. Examples: “swoosh” (sound that you hear after a basketball hits “nothing but net”), “frozen rope” (baseball term used for an extremely hard hit line drive by a batter), or “birdie” (word used by former veteran NFL kicker Al Del Greco prior to each kick as it created a feeling of success and reminded him of the fun he had on the golf course).
